An investigation is continuing after police say a 63-year-old Warkworth man died after a “propane explosion at a golf resort property” in Otonabee-South Monaghan in the County of Peterborough.
According to Peterborough County OPP, on July 22, 2026, at about 3 p.m., emergency crews responded to a report of a propane explosion in the Villiers Line area. In an initial update, police didn’t identify a specific property but have since stated the explosion occurred in a residential trailer on property owned by Bellmere Winds Golf Resort, which has a 1235 Villiers Line address.
Initial reports indicated one person – a 63-year-old Warkworth man – was first transported from the scene by ambulance before being airlifted to a Toronto-area hospital with life-threatening injuries. “The investigation into the explosion is being conducted by the Peterborough County OPP major crime unit, in conjunction with the Office of the Fire Marshal, Technical Standards and Safety Authority, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service,” said OPP, in their latest update.
