United Way Perth-Huron fundraiser hits the road in Huron County

United Way Perth-Huron is inviting the community to take to the open road in support of the organization with their newest fundraiser.

The first annual United We Ride is a self-guided rain-or-shine motorcycle ride through Huron County that will take riders on paved backroads and through communities along the Lake Huron shore on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The ride will travel along a pre-mapped route and feature an interactive mobile scavenger hunt with challenges and prizes for participants.

Starting at Maitland River Community Church in Wingham, check-in begins at 9 a.m. and kickstands go up at 10 a.m. The route will send riders toward the Goderich Legion, where they’re invited to stop for lunch, continuing toward the newly opened Stirling Sands VIneyards in Grand Bend.

Once they cross the finish line in Grand Bend, riders will be able to enjoy a barbecue and dinner, live music and a silent auction at the winery.

The cost to participate as a rider is $45, or $30 for passengers. All of the event’s proceeds will go toward United Way Perth-Huron’s Urgent Needs Fund, and those funds will stay local, helping people across Huron County.

Organizers noted that those without motorcycles can still participate by joining in the festivities at the finish line at Stirling Sands, which will cost $25 for those looking to join in on the fun.

In the event’s online listing, United Way Perth-Huron stated: “Whether you’re supporting a rider, cheering on the cause, or simply looking for a fun night out, your participation helps fuel United Way Perth-Huron’s Urgent Needs Fund and supports local people when they need it most.”
