It was back in 1996 when the first-ever Smile Cookie campaign took place to raise funds in support of Hamilton Children’s Hospital.
Since then, the annual campaign has raised a total of more than $150 million for charities and community groups selected each year by Tim Hortons restaurant owners.
Recipients include local hospitals, community care organisations, food banks and schools.
This year, Tim Hortons at Huron Road in Goderich, co-owner Alison Jeffries presented a cheque to Alexandra Marine and General Hospital (AMGH) Foundation board for $20,370 following Smile Cookie Week.
“As local business owners, we are extremely pleased when our community comes together for such a great cause,” admitted Alison Jeffries.
Throughout the week, 10,129 cookies were sold between the two Tim Hortons locations in Goderich, with funds raised supporting the Magnetic Moments campaign to bring an MRI machine to AMGH, serving the people of Goderich and Huron County.
These fundraising efforts involved 54 volunteers coming together with the Tim Hortons’ team members to decorate cookies, bringing smiles to businesses, schools and individuals across town.
Jeffries is grateful for the help from staff and volunteers this campaign.
“Many thanks to our Tim Hortons team members, our production teams and our enthusiastic and dedicated Smile Cookie volunteers who came together throughout the week,” added Jeffries.
“We look forward to a continued partnership with AMGH.”
The Smile Cookie week is proof that when community comes together, big things happen.
Dr. Tiffaney Kittmer, Magnetic Moments campaign chair explained that whether buying one cookie, a dozen or oven 20 dozen like one local business, every Smile Cookie sold at the Goderich Tim Hortons counted in raising $20,370 over the week to help bring an MRI machine to Huron County.
“We are grateful for Alison and Brendan Jeffries, co-owners of Tim Hortons in Goderich, for selecting the Magnetic Moments campaign as this year’s recipient, and getting us close to our $6,500,000 goal,” remarked Dr. Kittmer.
