Three candidates vying for mayor’s seat in Cobourg

Two candidates running for deputy mayor, 12 for council

Three people are in the race for the head seat at the council table for the Town of Cobourg.

The nomination period for the 2026 municipal and school board election closed Aug. 21.

The Town of Cobourg’s legislative services division has since confirmed the list of final candidates, certified by the municipal clerk and elections returning officer.

Voters will head to the polls on Monday, Oct. 26.

Current Town of Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland is looking to secure a second term at the helm.

Nicole Beatty, who is Cobourg’s current deputy mayor, is also running for mayor.

Max LeMarchant has also thrown his hat into the ring for the position.

The candidate elected as mayor will also secure a seat as a councillor at the Northumberland County council level.

Meanwhile, for the position of deputy mayor, which occupies one seat on council, current Coun. Adam Bureau, and Johnny Percolides are vying for the role.

There are five councillor positions to be elected at large – meaning politicians don’t represent a specific geographical area within the town – and there are 12 candidates in the running.

Councillor candidates seeking re-election include Randy Barber, Aaron Burchat, Brian Darling and Miriam Mutton, while Cindy Beman, Alexander Cahill, Jeremy Coulis, Randy Curtis, Lindsay Grimley, Mark Mills, Joel Scott, and Matthew Sickinger are also looking for residents’ votes.

For the school board election, there are two elected positions for the role of English public-school board trustee. Terry Brown, Jaine Klassen Jeninga, Elizabeth Terrell, and Lindsay White are running for seats on the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board’s board of trustees.

For the single position of English separate (Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board) board of trustee, Matthew Hilts has been acclaimed.

For the single elected position of school board trustee for the French public board (Conseil Scolaire Viamonde), Erik Lapointe has been acclaimed.

For the single elected position of school board trustee for the French separate board (Conseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir), Marcellin Kwilu Mondo has been acclaimed.
