There is something about the crisp shift in the air that makes you want to grab a warm drink and a stack of good books.

That seasonal change always brings a brilliant, cozy energy into the Cobourg Public Library, turning our space into a natural hub for connection and discovery. This October, we have double the reasons to roll out the welcome mat – it’s officially Canadian Library Month and Ontario Public Library Week, running from Oct. 18 to 24.

The theme for this year is “Get Loud for Libraries.”

We want our community to raise its voice and share just how essential these spaces are for learning, gathering and growing. To join in the noise, be sure to check out our Facebook and Instagram pages @cobourgpl starting Oct. 1. Throughout the month, we will be sharing eye-opening impact facts that highlight the real, everyday difference our library makes right here at home.

We also want to reward your curiosity. From Oct. 1 to 24, our “checkout receipt contest” is back.

Every time you check out your next stack of reads, hang onto that receipt; it quietly tracks the exact value you are saving through public resource sharing. Snap a quick photo of it and send it our way to be entered for a chance to win a gorgeous, curated library-themed gift basket.

Looking for an early autumn adventure?

Clear your schedule for Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for our silent auction and book sale. Every dollar raised goes straight toward expanding and enriching our collection, making it the ultimate treasure hunt for book lovers who want to reinvest in our shared community resources.

We are equally proud to team up with the Cobourg Rotary Club for “Socktober.”

From Oct. 1 to 31 all of our locations will serve as drop-off hubs for brand-new socks to help support individuals and families experiencing need or housing vulnerability through the changing weather.

Libraries are so much more than brick and mortar – they are an inclusive pulse of our town.

Whether you’re scoring a deal at the book sale, dropping off a warm pair of socks or connecting with us online, let’s make some noise together this October!
