SWOX staffer hoping for a Woodstock council seat

Daniel Leduc was born and raised in Woodstock and parents were raised in the area.

“I have a strong agricultural background with my grandparents farming in the Embro area and my other grandfather was a milk tester with the province of Ontario. I attended St. Marys High School and then Fanshawe College for the Civil Engineering Technology Program.”

Leduc was also enrolled in many sports growing up in the Friendly City, playing basketball with the Oxford Attack and rep soccer.

“I was also involved with sports in high school at St. Marys playing basketball, football and track and field. I have been working with SWOX township for a little over five years now , I am currently working as the Chief Building Official and Drainage Superintendent for the township.”

He said he is seeking a seat on Woodstock council in order for there to be an educated younger voice at the table who has a strong background in the city and practical experience.

“I am involved with council meetings at South-West Oxford providing recommendations to council for drainage, building and planning issues.”

He added his priorities are to have a new multi sport recreation centre, affordable housing for young families that are desirable to live in, as well as smart and responsible growth.

“A sports complex is important for our youth because it is vital they stay active, engaged and busy and have the ability to socialize with other kids in day and age where there is too much screen time for children. It hurts me to see people who are born and raised in Woodstock struggle to purchase a first-time home. We need to do whatever we can to allow housing prices to go down and have houses that are affordable and desirable to live in.”

While this is Leduc’s first time running for an elected position, he has sat in on many South-West Oxford Township council meetings because of his role there.
