Stunt driving charge laid in Port Hope

By West Northumberland independent staff
A recent traffic initiative in Port Hope has led to a stunt driving charge, say police.
According to the Port Hope Police Service, on Oct. 3, 2026, officers with the Port Hope Police Service were conducting traffic enforcement in the Peter Street area, just west of Hamilton Road.
As a result, police said one individual was charged with stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
During the initiative, officers allege they clocked a vehicle at 91 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone, after just exiting a community safety zone. The driver was subsequently charged with stunt driving, reported police.
The Port Hope Police Service is reminding all motorists that excessive speed puts everyone at risk and that traffic laws are in place to help keep roadways safe for all users.
Police added they continue to conduct proactive traffic enforcement initiatives throughout the community.
