Stratford Strikers Weekly Recap: A winning week for the Strikers

The Stratford U15 Strikers Girls continued their undefeated run with two convincing wins over the past week. On July 22 at the Stratford Education Recreation Centre (SERC) tennis field, the Strikers defeated Kitchener TFC U14/15 7-2. Peyton Ward and Resse Campbell each scored a brace, with Danica Voros, Jessica Blake and Kinsley McIntosh each scoring a goal for Stratford.

On July 27, the Strikers hosted Storm FC at VFG Field at Festival Hydro Park. The home side took an early first-half lead and cruised to a 9-0 win. Voros led the Strikers with a hat trick, while McIntosh, Blake, Campbell, Payton Herman, Ashley Van Stratten and Mya Groenestege scored for Stratford in the rout.

With the two wins, the Strikers kept themselves distanced from the Guelph Jr. Gryphons with a perfect 10-0-0 record, two points clear of first place in the Southwest District Soccer League (SWDSL) U15 Girls League Division. Stratford plays next on Aug. 5 against the Kitchener TFC U15 in Kitchener.

The Stratford U16 Strikers Boys extended their winning streak with victories over Huron-Perth United and Owen Sound United. On July 21, Stratford defeated Huron-Perth 3-1 with goals from Dominic McGurgin and a brace from Logan Wilson. Three days later, on July 24, the Strikers defeated Owen Sound United 2-0 with goals from Ashton Van Kooten and Cole Weyers.

Stratford improved to 6-1-3 in fifth place in the SWDSL U16 Boys Division, four points behind first-place Waterloo United. Next up for the Strikers is against Kitchener TFC in their final game of the five-match road trip on July 28. The final result will be included in next week’s edition of the Times.

In their lone match of the week, the Stratford U16 Strikers Girls continued their unbeaten run in SWDSL regular-season play with a 3-0 win as Resse Campbell scored a brace along with Arabelle Garland. The win puts the first-place Strikers four points ahead of the second-place Puslinch Predators in the SWDSL U16 Girls Division. Stratford’s next match is against Cambridge United at Cowan Field on August 4.
