Despite a snowy day, many parents and students showed up to the Legion on Thursday night to give recognition to the winners of the National Youth Remembrance Contest.
Every year, schools across the country have the chance to honour Canada’s veterans through art, writing (poems and essays) and video.
“It was awesome to see so many students with their parents, friends and relatives out to attend the awards ceremony,” organizer Ken Felkar said. “Of the 27 winners, only five were absent. This season saw 222 entries in the various categories.”
There were 10 categories that were acknowledged. As names were called for the poster winners, their creative art was displayed on a screen for the room to see.
Poster and literary submissions compete first at the local Legion branch level before the winners move on until they reach provincial level.
Felkar thanked the students, their teachers and parents for keeping this annual competition alive.
Congratulations to all the winners.
