With November underway and the Christmas season fast approaching, members of St. James Lutheran Church near Hampstead and Wellesley are preparing to bring the story of the first Christmas to life once again.

The historic red-brick church, which has stood for more than a century, continues to welcome worshippers for weekly services and remains an important part of the surrounding rural community.

Beside the church stands a large building affectionately known as the "Red Shed," which once sheltered horses and buggies while families attended worship services in years gone by.

Each year as Christmas approaches, members of the congregation, both young and old, come together to present Journey to the Bethlehem Stable, a live production depicting the story of Christ's birth.

This year marks the 29th anniversary of the popular Christmas tradition, which continues to attract visitors from throughout Perth County and beyond.

One of this year's organizers, Carol Horst, said the production will once again feature live farm animals brought in from surrounding farms, helping create an authentic setting for the biblical story.

The performance offers visitors an opportunity to step back in time and experience the journey to Bethlehem while reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas.

Two performances are planned for Saturday, Nov. 28, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, located at the corner of Perth Road 45 and Perth Line 106.

Following the performances, visitors are invited to stay for refreshments and fellowship with members of the congregation.

Everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of religious affiliation.

For those who have made the Journey to Bethlehem part of their annual Christmas traditions, or anyone interested in experiencing it for the first time, the congregation looks forward to sharing this special celebration once again.
