This winter has been one unlike any seen in the last number of years due to large accumulations of snow and ice.
In talking with various insurance companies in the area, all are saying for home and farm ownersshould check insurance coverage since some policies do not cover snow load and roof collapse.
They have all been receiving calls concerning their coverage with many building rooves in the province, especially barns, collapsing under the heavy weight of large amounts of snow.
They are also saying, with melting conditions and poor attic insulation allowing heat to escape from rooftops, ice can build up on house rooves, resulting in water damage inside homes and outbuildings. Most said damage may not be covered under some home-insurance policies, and urged homeowners to get that ice build-up removed as soon as possible.
The City of Stratford had boom-truck operators out over the last week removing overhanging snow and ice from higher buildings due to safety and liability concerns for pedestrians walking below.
