With the return of the popular Port Hope Heritage Business Improvement Area’s (HBIA) Trick-or-Treat night, officials are reminding residents that there will be road closures this Friday, as superheroes, goblins and all other types of creatures converge on the downtown.

“The annual HBIA Trick-or-Treat night has grown in popularity, attracting hundreds of children last year,” noted the municipality.

The event is set to light up the downtown area from 5 to 7 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 30.

However, for safety reasons, and to enhance the experience for little ones, families and pedestrians, municipal staff have confirmed several road closures will be in place Friday evening.

Here’s what you need to know.

From 4 to 8 p.m., the following road closures will be in place:

·      Walton Street, from Cavan Street to Mill Street.

·      Ontario Street, from Thompson Drive to Walton, with local traffic only to Brogden’s Lane.

·      John Street North, from Augusta Street to Walton Street.

·      Queen Street, from Augusta to Walton, with local traffic only to the Port Hope Public Library parking lot.

Sticking with parking, staff have noted that parking will not be permitted inside road closure areas and said advance signage would be installed near impacted parking meters by the HBIA on Friday morning to prepare drivers for closures.

To ensure continued transit service, modified transit routes have also been arranged during the closure period, added staff.

Full details and an interactive transit map are accessible via the municipality’s website, but for Route A, transit will depart from town hall and proceed north on Mill Street South to Barrett Street, turn south on Cavan to South Street, then south on Brown Street and return to Walton and continue the standard route, explained staff.

Stops A2 and A36 will be out of service temporarily.

As for Route B, transit will leave from town hall and proceed north on Mill Street South. Stops B2, B3 and B4 will be out of service during the re-route.
