Paris Mounties make comeback as team reclaims its identity

Paris Independent Columnist George Le Gresley is dropping some big news with hockey fans – the local Junior team is going back to its roots, bringing back the Paris Mounties name and nostalgia.

When the ownership group announced Paris’ PJHL (Junior C) team would be rebranded from the Paris Mounties to the Titans, it sparked backlash across the community, from both regular fans and those who rarely filled the stands. Among the promises made by the new ownership, a partnership between The Titan Investment Group and Paris local Mike Christian, was a commitment to building a roster rooted in Paris and Brant County. This goal they met, with local players making up half the team.

Last week, Mr. Christian announced that he was now the sole owner of the team, and, more importantly, that the team would return to the 2026-2027 season as the Paris Mounties. The team’s logo will be modernized, featuring the familiar hockey-stick-wielding Mountie on skates. The organization’s goal is to continue mining local talent while also developing athletes from other areas of the province. Mr. Christian also announced that Paris’ own Ryan O’Keefe, who began his junior hockey career as a Mountie, moved on to Junior B in Caledonia, only to return to the Titans last year, will finish his hockey career as the Mounties’ captain. Last season, O’Keefe played 42 games, scoring 12 goals, 15 assists for a 27-point season. 

Even though it’s considered the ‘off season’, the work to prepare for the new season is under way. The first order of business is announcing Todd Boomer, a Mounties and Titans coach, will be taking on the General Manager role for the team. Todd has been involved in minor and junior hockey for quite a while, and his experience will be helpful. While the entire coaching bench has not been announced yet, it was confirmed that Josh Hussey, formerly with the Burford Bulldogs and last year’s assistant coach with the Titans, was named as head coach. The Mounties will be on the ice this summer with tryouts and team practices, so that by the end of September, they’ll be ready to entertain hockey fans at the Brant Sports Complex.

If the reaction on the team’s social media is any indication, fans should buckle up for an exciting season. Supporters are already sharing stories from the Mounties’ past, digging out old merchandise and articles, and gearing up to become season ticket holders once again. It’s a clear sign that returning to the club’s roots is a winning move and one that’s reigniting fan enthusiasm.
