Featuring singing and lively anecdotes, along with tunes he recorded with April Wine and the Guess Who, Canadian musician Carl Dixon takes the stage Saturday (Oct. 24) in Cobourg.

Called Carl Dixon Songs and Stories, his solo performance at Victoria Hall is a multi-media show, with Dixon singing and playing the acoustic guitar, while encompassing photos and stories from different eras of his musical career that spans decades.

“I hope people will go home with a warm glow of memories from the good old days of our collective youth,” said Dixon. “Those days all seem infused with a golden glow when Canadian music was coming out to take on the world.

“Maybe people will also take away some good thoughts about how to go forward into our collective future.”

Dixon said the stories he’ll share come from the perspective of “sitting inside the spaceship with the stars while working on (my) own journey to the stars.”

He offered a memory of the time Iron Maiden invaded the stage “to cream pie us mid-set. Then there’s the one about being interrupted by the police while trying to siphon gasoline ... from a police car,” he added.

As for the music, the set features songs from the bands he’s recorded with and performed in – Coney Hatch, the Guess Who and April Wine.

Dixon is singer and songwriter, and founding member of Coney Hatch, which got its start back in the 1980s.

With April Wine, Dixon was the keyboardist, guitarist and backing vocalist from 2001-04.

He was the lead singer for the Guess Who from 1997-2000 and from 2004-08.

While frontman for the Guess Who, Dixon was involved in a life-changing car accident in Australia. He also now tours as a keynote speaker to corporate events focusing on safety and teamwork.

“Carl’s lessons from a life-on-the-road as iconic Canadian rock star to learning to walk again, re-gaining his feet on the international stage is told with humour and a commanding stage presence,” the musician’s website states. “His presentation through story and song is an inspiring story of willpower and determination, proving the journey to the top is never a solo act.”
