By Spencer Seymour Lucy Schiedel, a student of Medway High School who is from just outside of St. Marys, earned a silver medal in the junior girls pole vault event at OFSAA in St. Catharines June 4-6.

Schiedel, posting an impressive 3.40 score, came just 0.10 metres short of the first-place score in a strong showing for silver. Schiedel told the Independent it was a special experience making the trip to OFSAA for the second consecutive year.

“It was fun and I was lucky enough to go again for the second year in a row and come home with another medal. I am very grateful for all the opportunities I’ve been given and my excellent coaches. I feel that I have made great progress in my sprinting and jumping this past season, and I’m always pushing to do better.”

Schiedel credited her coaches and training regiment with leading to her strong OFSAA result.

“I trusted my training and my coaches, so I knew I had a good chance at a podium finish. I have big goals, and it’s always a great experience jumping with high-level competitors. I set a big goal for OFSAA and fell a little short of it. However, I was able to meet that goal at a competition this past weekend.”
