A market featuring an array of local artists brought lots of enthusiasm and visitors.

LocalArt St. Marys held an art market behind the Lyric Flowers building on Aug. 15. The market featured a variety of visual art, jewelry, clothing and handbags from vendors like Old Soul General Store and Get Crafty With Kenz.

“I feel like it’s going fantastic. We’ve had an amazing turnout. Everyone’s very excited. Not only are the vendors excited to see each other and to see the public, but people are really pumped to see an outdoor market,” said Jaci Henderson, founder of LocalArt St. Marys.

Many of the vendors participating were running a booth at an artisan market for the first time.

“It’s important to hold these events so we can showcase our community, and it gives people opportunity to dip their toe into markets when they’ve never participated before,” Henderson said.

Lyric Flowers also had a back-alley sale with sale items marked down 50 to 75 per cent off. The flower shop’s front window features a variety of creative works by artists who are members of LocalArt St. Marys in the display. Henderson also has an art swap box at the front on weekends and will host pop-up events at the front of the store from time to time.

It’s wonderful. They’re very supportive and we came together to put this event on, so it brings people to their business and they very much support the local artists community,” she said.

Jay Harrison, co-owner of Lyric Flowers, said he is happy to support local creative talent and offer a space for artists to showcase their pieces.

“We’re a small town. We need to support each other,” he said.
