Local concert supports music program at Milverton Public School

The music program at Milverton Public School has received a welcome boost thanks to the generosity of local music supporters.

Paul Hyatt, organist at Shakespeare Presbyterian Church and organizer of the church’s spring concert, recently presented a cheque for $500 to music teacher Ms. Hombach and her students at Milverton Public School.

The donation was raised through the Shakespeare Concert Series, which featured Curbstone, an a cappella quintet performing songs spanning a variety of genres and decades. The May 24 concert welcomed freewill donations from audience members, with proceeds dedicated to supporting local school music programs.

The event also showcased the talents of several Milverton Public School students. Performers included Gregory Fisher (Grade 6) on violin, Claire Fisher (Grade 4) on piano, Flora Harman (Grade 3) on piano and Mavis Menard (Grade 2) as a vocalist. Their performances were a highlight of the afternoon and demonstrated the strength of the school's music program.

“We were excited to be given the opportunity to be part of the concert that Paul Hyatt organized,” said Ms. Hombach.

While plans for the donation are still being discussed, Ms. Hombach said the contribution is greatly appreciated.

Milverton Public School offers a variety of musical opportunities for students, including a voluntary choir for grades one to six, as well as vocal and instrumental instruction featuring ukuleles and percussion.

Throughout the school year, students have opportunities to perform at school assemblies and special events, including Remembrance Day, the Holiday Concert and Music Monday, which showcases musical talent from all grade levels.

The donation will support ongoing music education and performance opportunities for young musicians at the school.
