Hutton ‘n’ Fishin’ win SMGCC Mixed Scramble

Retrogression lifted the team of Steve Fisher, Melanie Fisher, Kenny Hutton and Leslie Monroe, named Hutton ‘N’ Fishin’, to the top spot in the St. Marys Golf and Country Club’s (SMGCC) Mixed Scramble Aug. 13.

Hutton ‘N’ Fishin’ were one of three teams to finish the tournament with a score of 60, 12 under par, winning after the retrogression tie breaker was applied. Placing second was the foursome of Cheryl Anderson, Pete Csanyi, Lisa Goudie and Steve MacDonald. Evan Bechtel, Carly Buckholtz, Alex Taylor and Sarah Taylor also scored 60 and took the A division title.

Both Hutton and Steve Fisher described a well-rounded round by all members of the foursome.

“This was another day with this group where we had lots of fun, and everyone made key shots when we needed it and kept the momentum going throughout the round,” said Hutton. “Everyone stepped up great with tee shots and lots of great putts when we needed it. Key shots came on our last two holes with a 25-foot eagle putt by Melanie (Fisher) on Hole 6 and a 15-foot birdie putt by Steve (Fisher) on Hole 7.”

“Sometimes in these events, one person will get hot and carry the team, but each of us seemed to step up at different times and deliver a big shot when it was needed,” Steve Fisher echoed. “Kenny (Hutton) made birdie with his own ball on 12, the toughest hole on the course, and also on 16, where his ball plugged two inches from a hole-in-one. Melanie made an incredible putt for eagle on Hole 6 from about 25 feet away. It was our second-last hole and was massively important to an eagle-birdie finish (on our last two holes) that got us to that tying number of 12 under par.”

Overall, 29 foursomes made up of 116 golfers played in the tournament.

In the B division, Cheryl McVittie, Kent McVittie, Brian Worrad and Mindy Worrad took the top spot with a score of 63.

Kelsey MacSorley, Mac MacSorley, Allie Merkel and Matt Welsh finished first in the C bracket with a score of 62.

Jonathan Allum, Sherry-Lee Allum, Cole Stewart and Stacey Stewart placed first in the D division, shooting 64.
