People and their pets hit the pavement in Cobourg recently, raising more than $70,000 to support local hospice care.
Community Care Northumberland (CCN) has announced its annual “Hike, Bike and Bark” raised $72,840 for hospice services at CCN’s Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre.
Held at Victoria Park, the 2026 event brought together 200 participants, along with more than 50 of their four-legged friends, “to walk and ride for the families and individuals who turn to Ed’s House for comfort, dignity and support during life’s most difficult moments,” explained organizers, in a recent release.
CCN is thanking the generosity of participants, sponsors, volunteers and donors across the region who raised the money.
“This was my first Hike, Bike and Bark as CEO, and I was blown away by the community’s spirit and generosity,” said CCN CEO Jordan Prosper. “Seeing so many people, and their dogs, come out to support Ed’s House was incredibly moving.
“Every dollar raised helps ensure that families in Northumberland can receive compassionate hospice care close to home. On behalf of everyone at (CCN) and Ed’s House, thank you.”
The fundraising helps cover integral end-of-life care that Ed’s House provides to its residents, and their families free of charge, noted the organization.
CCN and Ed’s House also gave a shout-out to CPS Wood Products, the first-ever presenting sponsor of Hike, Bike and Bark, “whose support helped make this year’s event possible. Thank you as well to our many sponsors, the volunteers who gave their time, and every participant who raised funds and took part.”
Each year, the event’s top individual fundraiser and top fundraising team are recognized with their names on a plaque at Ed’s House. This year’s top individual fundraiser was Mary Doig, who raised $3,270. The top team of fundraisers was HG for Hospice raising $6,200.
The Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre Foundation supports the delivery of compassionate hospice and palliative care services provided through Ed’s House. Through community fundraising and donor support, the foundation helps ensure individuals and families facing life-limiting illness receive exceptional care, comfort and support both at Ed’s House and through community-based palliative care programs across Northumberland.
