From books to puzzles: Tavistock Fair sale has something for everyone

The Tavistock Fair’s popular Second Hand Book Nook Sale returns Sept. 11-13, giving visitors the opportunity to find affordable books and, new this year, puzzles.                                                                         

Since beginning in 2022, the sale has continued to grow and become a highlight of the fair. Donations of gently used hardcover and paperback books, as well as puzzles, are now being accepted. The committee welcomes children’s books, fiction and non-fiction, craft and hobby books, magazines, talking books, sheet music, comic books and graphic novels.

Items that cannot be accepted include encyclopedias, textbooks, business or computer manuals, tax guides, VHS tapes, CDs and DVDs.

Janet Heinbuch said the committee is especially hoping for donations of books about antique and vintage cars, as they are always popular with visitors from the car show. Other requested topics include sports, farming, birdwatching, nature and photography.

Affordable pricing remains one of the sale’s biggest attractions. Children’s books are $1, softcover books are $2 and hardcover books are $3. A mystery special will also be offered on Sunday, featuring special bargains for book lovers.

The sale relies on community support and volunteers. Anyone interested in helping can contact Julie Kimple at 519-590-1617.

Books and puzzles can be dropped off before Sept. 10 at the Tavistock Public Library or Southeasthope Mutual Insurance. Donations can also be brought to the arena on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 6-8 p.m., or Friday, Sept. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The committee encourages residents to donate and help give books and puzzles a second life while supporting the Tavistock Fair.
