‘Embracing new technology’: $100K boost for Cobourg-based Lakeland Multi-trade Inc.

Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini has announced a $100,000-boost to help with a “digital transformation” for Lakeland Multi-trade Inc., a Cobourg-based industrial and commercial multi-trade contractor.
Monies are coming through the Ontario Centre of Innovation’s Digital Competence
Centre Technology Demonstration Program – and Lakeland is using the new tech for work at sites across the region, including the Blommer Chocolate Company in Campbellford, explained Piccini.
“When I brought the minister of small business to Northumberland-Peterborough South,
we saw firsthand the innovation and investment happening right here in our community,”
said Piccini. “Lakeland Multi-trade is a great example of a local company embracing new technology to improve how they operate and serve their customers.
“This $100,000 investment will help their business become more efficient (and) strengthen its competitiveness to continue growing right here in Northumberland.”
According to the province, this type of funding is supposed to help small-to-medium-sized businesses modernize operations.
Further, the Ontario government has announced an additional $5-million investment in the Digital Competence Centre, which it said builds on a $20-million investment to date in the program.
According to provincial officials, the $100,000 investment has helped Lakeland Multi-trade “accelerate its digital transformation by adopting a cloud-based field service management (FSM) and project management platform.”
Lakeland Multi-trade President Shane Jarvis also said the support provided through the Technology Demonstration Program has strengthened the company’s digital capabilities and positioned Lakeland for continued growth and innovation.
“By embracing modern digital tools, we are improving productivity, enhancing the quality of our services and building a stronger foundation for future success,” said Jarvis. “We are grateful for the Ontario government’s commitment to helping Ontario businesses adopt advanced technologies that increase competitiveness, drive innovation, and contribute to the province’s long-term economic prosperity.”
The tech is also helping the way Lakeland manages projects, tracks information and supports clients across its operations, with the new platform enabling improved accuracy, consistency and efficiency of information captured in the field during projects, including Lakeland’s work at the Blommer Chocolate Company and additional client locations, according to a recent release.
Further reported benefits include the digitization of workflows, with the platform helping to streamline approvals of timesheets, quotations, change orders and invoices; thus, reducing administrative-related work, helping to control costs, minimizing delays and increasing transparency throughout project lifecycles.
“The technology also provides Lakeland with real-time reporting and advanced analytics
to monitor project progress, resource utilization and costs,” noted officials. “This greater visibility is helping the company make faster, data-driven decisions and improve overall operational efficiency.”
