Disturbance, shoplifting in-progress calls lead to 2 arrests in Cobourg

Two separate incidents at Cobourg businesses have resulted in arrests.
On Sept. 3, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m., police said they responded to a business in the Spring and King streets area after receiving a shoplifting in-progress call.
“It was reported that an individual at a self-checkout paid for a small amount of merchandise but placed a significant quantity of unpaid merchandise in her bag,” said the Cobourg Police Service.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 28-year-old Cobourg woman was charged with theft under $5,000.
The accused was released on an undertaking and will appear in court at a later date, reported police.
On Sept. 3, at about 11:50 a.m., police also said they responded to an unrelated disturbance call at a business in the King Street West area.
Staff reported that an individual attended the business, became agitated after speaking with staff and then allegedly threw merchandise and damaged a window before leaving the area.
Police said the suspect was found a short distance away.
As a result of the probe, a 37-year-old Cobourg woman was charged with mischief under $5,000 and failure to comply with a probation order. The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date, added police.
None of the charges in the above unrelated calls have been proven in court.
