The 2025 poppy campaign for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 125 in Delhi kicks off Oct. 31.
“It’s always the last Friday of October,” said Trudy Ingraham, Poppy Chair, “and it runs through to Nov. 11.”
Letters for purchasing Remembrance Day wreaths – or making poppy campaign donations - have been sent, said Ingraham.
As of Oct. 31st, poppy donation boxes will be seen at Delhi businesses.
“We would like to ask for volunteers for Tagging Day – it’s open to everyone in the community, you do not have to be a Legion member. That’s the day when our volunteers go out with poppies, people donate to us and receive a poppy. It’s by donation only.”
Tagging Day in Delhi will be held Saturday, Nov. 1st and Nov. 8th. Volunteers meet at the Delhi Legion, 249 Main Street, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
“I usually send volunteers out for one or two hours, depending how long they want to go. We arrange all the sites, we just need people to go out and do it.”
Tagging Day ends at 3 p.m.
New this year, Legions are introducing debit or credit card ‘tapping’ machines.
“This year, there is one denomination, $5, available for the tap-machines. They will be strategically placed around town.”
REMEMBRANCE DAY
The 2025 Remembrance Day ceremony in Delhi on Nov. 11 is open to the entire community, said Ingraham.
“Everyone is always welcome to join us, Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the cenotaph (King Street). The program will start at approximately 10:45 a.m.”
Business and service club wreaths are pre-laid. Wreath for veterans and local dignitaries are laid during the ceremony. They remain in place for the remainder of the day.
“There will be a light lunch following the ceremony at the Legion (249 Main Street), everyone is welcome to come join us.”
There will be a traditional Remembrance Day evening meal with guest speaker. The Ladies Auxiliary cooks the meal. Dinner tickets can be purchased at the Legion (cocktails 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m.).
“We encourage everyone to come out and participate,” said Ingraham.
