DCVI hosts intermediate regional track and field meet

St. Marys DCVI hosted the intermediate regional track and field meet June 9, with 34 athletes representing DCVI in the competition.

Coach Kristin DeBrabandere described what stood out about the intermediate track and field squad.

“What impressed me most about this year’s (intermediate track and field) team was their camaraderie,” DeBrabandere told the Independent. “They really supported one another and cheered each other on throughout the whole event. They never gave up.”

A total of 23 athletes qualified for the district meet, which was held at F.E. Madill in Wingham June 16.

Highlights of DCVI’s results included:

• Jake Carpenter finished second overall in the senior boys’ division, first place in long jump, second in the 100-metre dash and second in triple jump;

• Dylan Kittmer, competing in the first-ever para division, finished first in the 80-metre race, first in long jump and first in ball throw;

• Talon Ward finished first in shotput and third in triple jump;

• Alex Peachey finished first in high jump;

• Luke Saville finished first in high jump;

• Paige Johnson finished second in the 1,200-metre race, third in shotput;

• Lauren Masselis finished second in long jump and third in the 150-metre race;

• Cole McIntosh finished in third in the 100-metre sprint and third in the 200-metre race;

• Bryce Blight finished second in the 1,200-metre race;

• Ryder Boemer finished second in shotput;

• Rose Clark finished second in high jump;

• Nathaniel Obi-Johnson finished second in high jump;

• Maddie Stewardson finished second in high jump;

• Kayden Brode finished third in long jump;

• Camille Crummer finished third in triple jump;

• Nora Laidlaw finished third in the 300-metre race;

• Kenzie Shackleton finished third in the 80-metre race;

• All four 4x100-metre relay teams advanced to the district meet.
