D’Orazio throws his hat in the ring for an Ingersoll council spot

Louie D’Orazio has lived in Ingersoll since 2002 with his wife Paula. The couple have six children and 14 grandchildren. He is a retired engineering professional with four degrees, including a Ph.D., and is the author of several published works. 

“I have been to more than 1,000 classic rock concerts and was even an extra in the movie Detroit Rock City. My wife and I spend as much time as possible with our family and my parents. We also enjoy travelling whenever we can, and by September of this year, we will have visited all 10 Canadian provinces, with our 30th anniversary celebration taking place in Newfoundland.” 

D’Orazio said he feels he has a lot to offer the community with his engineering knowledge as the town looks to improve and modify. 

“I am very familiar with items like the building code and feel I can help work through some of our expansion and maintenance issues. Being a town councillor provides a unique opportunity to influence local decisions and improve the quality of life for residents. Councillors play a crucial role in addressing community issues, representing the views of local people, and ensuring that essential services are delivered effectively. This role allows you to shape policies that directly affect your community, from public safety to infrastructure improvements.”

He added that he would like to see downtown become more visually attractive, with every applicable business having some type of patio or a “meet-and-greet” concept.

“I want our BIA to become the top BIA among small towns, and I would like to help promote the group. The other issue is homelessness and hunger. As an avid supporter of STICH and the Food Project, along with my wife, Paula, I want Ingersoll to become known provincially as the most caring community when it comes to helping others. I really believe I can accomplish this as a start by gathering as much feedback as possible from the citizens of the town.”

When it comes to why the people of Ingersoll should vote for him, D’Orazio said a lot of people know who he is and they know he has a strong belief in helping people. 

“As a town councillor, I would be able to do more on making these things happen with 100 per cent dedication to the citizens. I would use some of my experience and knowledge towards improving Ingersoll. Serving as a councillor is not just about responsibilities; it also offers significant personal growth. I will develop new skills in leadership, decision-making, and teamwork. Engaging with diverse community members and tackling local challenges can enhance your confidence and broaden your understanding of governance.”

He added he loves Ingersoll and has enjoyed living in the town for two-plus decades.

“I have no regrets living here, especially within our little subdivision. I am asking all citizens to give me a chance to help take Ingersoll to the next level. In summary, becoming a town councillor is a rewarding endeavour that allows me to contribute positively to my community while also growing personally and professionally. I am passionate about making a difference and representing the interests of my fellow residents. I believe that this role is a perfect fit for me.”
