Crash involving e-scooter in Cobourg leads to no charges, warning from police

No serious injuries or charges were laid after a crash involving an e-scooter and vehicle last week, says the Cobourg Police Service.
According to police, on Aug. 20, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a collision involving an electric scooter and vehicle in the Elgin Street and Chipping Park Boulevard area.
Paramedics did end up transporting a youth to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but no charges were laid as a result of the probe, reported police.
However, the incident does have police reminding the public about the risks associated with e-scooter use, especially involving youth.
According to the Canadian Paediatric Surveillance Program’s 2025 annual report, 57 serious e-scooter and e-bike-related injuries involving kids and youth were reported nationwide. Of those, officials said there were 10 deaths, and head injuries accounted for nearly half of all cases.
Police are urging the public to learn more about e-scooter safety, citing the Ontario Ministry of Transportation website as a valuable resource.
