Cobourg resident charged after sexual assault investigation in Brighton: OPP

Northumberland OPP says a Cobourg resident has been charged in connection with a sexual assault investigation in the Municipality of Brighton.
According to OPP, on Aug. 20, 2026, police received a number of complaints regarding incidents that allegedly occurred at a business on Young Street from May 28 to Aug. 12, 2026.
The Northumberland OPP crime unit continued the investigation, and as a result, an individual was taken into custody on Aug. 24, reported police.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 53-year-old Cobourg resident was charged with sexual assault and two counts of voyeurism.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused will appear in Cobourg court in September, said police.

Police are also reminding the public that there is no statute of limitations on sexual offences, and a report can be made to police at any time, regardless of how much time has passed. For people who do not wish to make a report to police or who need more time and support to make that decision, police noted there are community partners available to help.
