Cobourg launches snow-clearing assistance pilot program

The Town of Cobourg’s public works and engineering division is launching a snow-clearing assistance pilot program aimed at helping residents ages 65 and older or who are unable to shovel snow due to a disability.
The pilot project period runs from Nov. 1 through to March 31, 2027. During the pilot period, the program will be limited to 25 eligible applicants who will be selected through an electronic lottery process, explained town staff.
After the 2026-27 pilot is complete, participants will be asked to complete a survey to evaluate program effectiveness and service delivery to support and improve future program planning, the town noted, in recent a media release.
The pilot program services include the following:
Municipal sidewalk clearing services:
Includes snow clearing of about a three-foot-wide path of fronting and adjacent sidewalks of property.
Does not include clearing of private walkways leading to municipal sidewalks, sanding or salting.
Driveway windrow clearing services:
Includes snow clearing of centre portion – one car width – of the windrow at end of driveway.
Does not include clearing of entire driveway, sanding or salting.
To be eligible to participate, people must be a property owner or tenant of a Cobourg address and be 65 years of age or older or unable to clear snow due to a disability.
A seasonal fee of $100 (HST included) is due within 15 business days upon confirmation to participate in the program.
Accepted payment methods are cash, debit, and cheque (payable to “The Corporation of The Town of Cobourg.”)
Only applicants selected for the program will be notified.
Eligible residents may apply for the program or apply on behalf of a family member by completing the pilot program application form online on the town’s website.
