The Town of Cobourg has given the intersection of D’Arcy Street and University Avenue East a green light.

Cobourg’s public works and engineering division recently announced the new traffic signals at D’Arcy Street and University Avenue East were activated as of Oct. 30.

In July, the Town of Cobourg shared its plans to make traffic signal improvements at three intersections.

New traffic signals were installed at D’Arcy Street and Elgin Street East in partnership with Northumberland County. The D’Arcy Street and Elgin Street East traffic signals were activated earlier in October.

The third project is at Division Street and University Avenue, where existing traffic signals are being upgraded to include left-turn signals for all approaches to the intersection. This work is still ongoing, noted the town.

Town staff said the work on these intersections was approved as part of the 2026 capital budget and funded through the infrastructure reserve with Northumberland County contributing costs for the D’Arcy Street and Elgin Street East traffic signal infrastructure, and the town contributing costs for curbs, pavement markings, and more.

“This initiative reflects the town’s commitment to improving safety for children, pedestrians, and the broader community,” said town staff, in a recent release.
