Charge laid after 3-vehicle crash, social media challenge at Port Hope drive-thru

A careless driving charge has been laid after a crash in a drive-thru earlier this month that involved a social media challenge, say Port Hope police.

In a release issued on Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, the Port Hope Police Service said back on Sept. 6, 2026, police responded to a three-vehicle collision at a local drive-thru.

“Police learned that at the time of the collision one individual was riding on the roof of the vehicle and another was positioned on the hood while participating in a social media challenge,” said the service.

As a result of the probe, police said the driver was charged with careless driving.

No other details were released surrounding the investigation or the accused.

However, the alleged incident has prompted the service to issue a reminder to the public about how dangerous social media challenges involving vehicles can result in serious injury or death.

“Riding on the hood, roof or exterior of a moving vehicle puts everyone involved, as well as other motorists and pedestrians, at risk,” said the service.
