At least one Brant County resident is out thousands of dollars after paying for chimney repairs he says were started but never finished.
The Burford resident paid $5,000 last week to someone claiming they were from a Toronto-based company called 24 Hrs Roofing and Masonry, according to a media release from Brant County OPP.
The person had been going door-to-door in the county, offering repair and renovation services, it said.
The resident told police the repair work was started but never finished.
The person the resident dealt with is described as a white male around 35 years old, six feet tall and around 230 pounds. He was driving a black pickup truck.
Police ask anyone with video footage, a licence plate number, or other relevant information to reach out at 1-888-310-1122 and give incident No. E260055188.
An anonymous tip can be made through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or crimestoppersbb.com.
Police also remind residents to be vigilant when approached by people selling services door-to-door.
“Always verify a company’s credentials and conduct background checks before making payments,” the release said.
