Investigators are calling on the public for help after a child sexual exploitation investigation in Northumberland that led to the arrest of an Ajax resident and search warrants executed in Ajax and Whitby, says Northumberland OPP.

On Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, Northumberland OPP issued a release saying police had charged an individual in connection with the investigation in Northumberland County. Police did not identify a specific community.

About a week prior – on Oct. 21 – Northumberland OPP said police received a report about sexual exploitation of a young person.

An investigation was initiated in collaboration with the Northumberland, Peterborough County and Haliburton Highlands OPP crime units, with help from the OPP regional support team and OPP emergency response team, explained OPP.

As a result of the investigation, police said search warrants were executed in Whitby and Ajax, with the assistance of the Durham Regional Police Service’s digital forensics unit.

Then, on Sunday, Oct. 25, police said Tre-Jamal Hamad, 31, of Ajax, was arrested and charged with several Criminal Code of Canada offences, including: Possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, making sexually explicit material available to a person under 18 years of age, two counts of making sexually explicit material available to a person under 16 years of age, luring a person under 18 years of age by means of telecommunication, two counts of luring a person under 16 years of age by means of telecommunication, indecent exposure to a person under 16 years of age, and makes prints, publishes or possesses for the purpose of publication of any child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

None of these charges have been proven in court.

Police stated the accused was held for a bail hearing and was scheduled to appear in Cobourg court on Thursday, Oct. 29, which is past the Independent’s print deadline.

However, police did put out a public plea in their release.

“Investigators are urging anyone who may have had contact with the accused or experienced similar circumstances to contact police,” said OPP.

Anyone with any information related to this investigation is also being urged to call Northumberland OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Police also stated that a publication ban has been issued, and as a result, OPP will not be able to release further information.

However, OPP is reminding residents that support is available for individuals affected by this or a similar incident through the Victim Services of Peterborough and Northumberland at 1-888-822-7729.

No other details were released by police.
