A summer tradition continues at Ingersoll's semi-annual barn dance

Residents of Ingersoll dusted off their cowboy boots and hats on June 22 as the Ingersoll Cheese and Agricultural Museum brought back its much-beloved Barn Dance for a third year in a row.

Originally held in July and August, the museum decided to move this year's event to June in hopes of finding a better fit on the community calendar.

“October’s too busy between Pumpkinfest and Mystic Market, and in August everyone is gone. Then July is just so hot,” laughed Olivia Sidwell, Collections Coordinator at the museum. “So, we’re trying to see what works.”

The skies were clear for the 19-plus pay-what-you-wish event, which ran from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The evening featured live local music by Gregory Szabo. A cash bar was provided by the Ingersoll Lions Club, and food was available for purchase thanks to P.B.’s Fries.

Similar to last year, museum staff rallied those willing to participate into the barn and taught attendees a variety of line dances, allowing both seasoned dancers and newcomers to show off their skills, drinks in hand. As the evening went on and guests grew more comfortable, the music picked up, with “Cotton Eyed Joe” proving to be a crowd favourite.

In addition to dancing, attendees had the chance to relax outside and enjoy lawn games, including bean bag toss and Jenga, among others. As the sun began to set and the event drew to a close, the music slowed, inviting several couples onto the dance floor for a final slow dance.

“Thank you all so much for coming,” announced Museum Manager Stephanie Conron. “And we hope to see you at the next Barn Dance in September!”

With music, dancing, and plenty of community spirit, the Barn Dance once again proved to be a favourite tradition that keeps residents coming back year after year.
