From towering sand structures crafted by master sculptors to more modest creations built by amateurs, the annual Cobourg Sandcastle Festival is slated to be “a celebration of creativity, community and summer fun” on the beach in Cobourg this August.
The Town of Cobourg’s sandcastle festival is on Saturday, Aug. 8 at Victoria Beach. Master sculptors start building their entries on Friday, Aug. 7. There are a host of public activities and amateur sandcastle-building contests on the Saturday.
“The Cobourg Sandcastle Festival is a celebration of creativity, community and summer fun for all ages,” said Jackie Chapman Davis, manager of culture, events and tourism for the Town of Cobourg.
“Visitors can look forward to an exciting day at the waterfront featuring incredible sand sculptures, family-friendly activities, local vendors, youth vendors showcasing their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, food vendors, entertainment and opportunities to explore everything Cobourg has to offer.”
Chapman Davis oversees the planning and delivery of community town events, including the Cobourg Sandcastle Festival. The endeavour encompasses a team effort and is possible only with the support of community partners, vendors, volunteers and staff.
“One of the things that makes this festival special is seeing the community come together, from talented sandcastle builders and local businesses to young entrepreneurs and families enjoying a day at the beach,” said Chapman Davis. “It is a great opportunity for residents and visitors to experience the energy of Cobourg’s waterfront and discover why so many people love spending time here.”
She noted that a successful festival not only brings people together but also has a positive economic impact on Cobourg’s downtown businesses, restaurants and tourism operators.
“My hope is that the Sandcastle Festival is a fun, busy and safe day that creates lasting memories for everyone who attends. We want visitors to enjoy the event, support local businesses and experience the welcoming atmosphere that makes Cobourg such a special place.
“Ultimately, we hope people leave with a great experience and are inspired to return to Cobourg again and again.”
Cobourg invites people to bring their sunscreen and cameras and enjoy “a fun-filled sand sculpting showdown.”
